The advantage of using it as a pigment is its resistance to UV radiation. It absorbs UV radiation and converts it into harmless heat.
Its high reflectivity, brightness and color constancy also determine it as a suitable material for use in the form of thin coatings on special optics such as dielectric mirrors.
