Characteristics

Common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is a plant of the Lamiaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region. 100% natural essential oil, steam-distilled, with a strong, aromatic fragrance. Widely used in aromatherapy and cosmetics. Note: there is also Thymus serpyllum oil, which is milder and has slightly different properties.

Properties and uses

Thyme essential oil is valued for its intense aroma and versatile applications in wellness, cosmetics and household use.

• Aromatherapy: Purifies the air, promotes focus and provides energy. Ideal during fatigue and exhaustion.
• Cosmetics: Suitable for oily, impure or acne-prone skin. Added to creams, toners and cleansing products. Also used in oral hygiene preparations.
• Massage: Incorporated in massage blends for relaxing muscles and supporting recovery.
• Bath products: Blended into bath salts or oils for a revitalizing and refreshing effect.
• Household: Popular in diffusers and aroma lamps for air purification. Traditionally also used as a natural insect repellent.
• Perfumery: Works as a strong herbal heart note in spicy and aromatic fragrance blends.

How do essential oils dissolve?

Essential oils are hydrophobic and do not dissolve in water. They must always be diluted in a carrier:

• Alcohol – ideal for perfumes, sprays and air fresheners.
• Vegetable oils – perfect for cosmetic products and massage oils.
• Polysorbate 80 – allows mixing with water.
• Augeo – suitable for diffusers and room fragrances.
