What do fragrance oils dissolve in?
Fragrance oils are hydrophobic and do not dissolve in water on their own. They must always be mixed into a carrier:
- Alcohol – ideal for perfumes, sprays and air fresheners.
- Vegetable oils – suitable for massage blends and cosmetics.
- Polysorbate 80 – allows mixing with water.
- Augeo – suitable for perfumes and diffusers.
Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 on the classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures:
H315 Causes skin irritation. H317 May cause an allergic skin reaction. H319 Causes serious eye irritation. H411 Toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. P261 Avoid breathing vapours or dust. P264 Wash hands and affected skin thoroughly after handling. P272 Contaminated work clothing should not be allowed out of the workplace. P273 Avoid release to the environment. P280 Wear protective gloves, eye protection/face protection. P302+P352 IF ON SKIN: Wash with plenty of water and soap. P305+P351+P338 IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes.
