Description

Make your own mango butter shampoo – perfect for dry, damaged or brittle hair that needs a good dose of nourishment and care. You’ll love this recipe not only for its benefits but also for its ease of use. And as a bonus: no plastic bottles in the bathroom!

Once you wash your hair with shampoo, a concentrated solid shampoo, you usually stick with it. Shampoo is a water-free form of classic shampoo, which, unlike shampoo soap, does not undergo saponification. It is based on surfactants – surface-active substances that dissolve and remove dirt.

A big plus of shampoos is the ability to include a high percentage of herbs, caring substances such as clays or active ingredients, or nourishing oils in the formula, which care for your hair while washing it without making your hair greasy or heavy after washing.

The shampoo is used in the same way as a solid hair soap - just moisten it, gently rub it over wet hair, lather, massage and rinse. Your hair does not need to get used to the shampoo, it washes wonderfully right from the first use (which is a significant advantage compared to a soap-based solid shampoo) and is also very well tolerated by dyed or otherwise chemically treated hair. It rinses out well, works great even with very hard water, and because it has a neutral pH.

Because the shampoo is concentrated, it almost never runs out and lasts a very long time. Due to its small size, it doesn't take up much space, on a bathroom shelf or in a suitcase on vacation. And you'll have fun making it!

What will we make it out of?

Mango butter

Mango butter is a lifesaver for tired and dry hair. It contains a rich amount of fatty acids that nourish the hair in depth, protect it from drying out and leave it silky soft. It gives the hair a natural shine and elasticity while helping to soothe an irritated scalp. In shampoo, it forms a nourishing base that every hair will appreciate from roots to ends.

Surfactants SCI and Sodium coco sulfate (SCS)

A pair of surfactants ensures perfect washing and rich foam. SCI is a gentle, natural surfactant based on coconut oil that gently cleanses without drying. Sodium coco sulfate is a slightly stronger but very effective cleanser that copes with dirt and excess sebum. Together they form a balanced combination for a thorough but gentle hair wash.

Floral water or distilled water

A seemingly inconspicuous ingredient, but it is important for the correct consistency of the shampoo. It helps to combine the individual ingredients into a compact paste, which is then pressed into the mold. You can use hydrolate or flower water, or distilled or boiled water. Hydrolates will add other undeniable benefits to the shampoo. For example neroli flower water Combing your hair will help, whilerosemary hydrolate fights dandruff and hair loss.

Annato/urucum powder

Urucum powder comes from the seeds of a tropical shrub called annatto. This shrub grows mainly in South America and its seeds are known for their intense orange-red color. The powder is created by drying and finely grinding these seeds - the result is a natural dye and a powerful antioxidant. Urucum is one of the richest natural sources of beta-carotene (even 100 times more than carrots!). It also contains selenium, zinc, magnesium, and the rare pigments bixins and norbixins, which have strong antioxidant effects. Not only will it give the shampoo a beautiful orange hue, but it also supports scalp health and protects hair from harmful external influences.

Provitamin B5 (panthenol)

Provitamin B5 is a real balm for your hair – it strengthens the hair fiber, adds moisture, soothes the scalp and promotes shine. After use, hair is soft, easy to comb and less prone to breakage.

What is needed for this?

How to do it?

Prepare a water bath. Pour a few centimeters of water into a saucepan and heat it on the stove. Weigh the mango butter into a heatproof bowl and melt it in the water bath over low heat.

Add SCI, SCS, urucum and water to the mango butter. Using a spoon, mix the mixture thoroughly and press it against the side of the container to form a sticky, homogeneous paste.

Once the mixture is well mixed, remove the container from the heat and stir in the panthenol.

Transfer the mixture to a mold and smooth the surface. Place the mold with the mixture in the freezer for about 15 minutes to harden the shampoo. Then simply remove from the mold.

Let the shampoo dry for at least 48 hours at room temperature.

Ideally, store the finished shampoo dry - after each wash, let it rest on a soap dish out of reach of water, it will last longer!

Solid shampoo lasts for several months and you can take it with you on the go – no liquids, no plastic, just clean, fragrant and nourishing care. So what do you say, will you start producing?
