Characteristics

• SAPOGEL® Q is a new liquid mixture of saponins from the soapbark tree (Quillaja saponaria) and soap (Saponaria officinalis). Saponins, from the Latin sapo for soap, consist of water-insoluble lipophilic moieties to which water-soluble hydrophilic sugar molecules are attached.
• Substances that are both lipophilic and hydrophilic are called amphiphilic - a property shared by all saponins, surfactants and emulsifiers, which makes them desirable ingredients for fine cosmetic products.
• The soap trees and soaps used to make SAPOGEL® Q are sustainably grown and wild harvested, where the whole plant is used for extraction.

Use

• Sapogel Q is a red/brown liquid mixture that can be used to create natural balms with different textures similar to petroleum jelly or lanolin.
• Cosmetic products: Cleansers, lip care, hair care, baby care
• It can be used both cold and hot, it is possible to add exfoliants, powders such as oats or starch without compromising stability or appearance.
• Sapogel Q can be applied in both a cold and a hot process.
• Sapogel Q gives you the opportunity to make a 100% natural product. Applications range from body balms, salt or sugar scrubs, hair and beard balms, lip balms and body balms.

• How does it work

  • Sapogel Q works with all oils and butters. Product viscosity varies from oil to oil and some experimentation is required to find the viscosity that suits your purposes and packaging.
  • Compared to sucrose ester-based oil thickeners (e.g. SUCRAGEL®), SAPOGEL® Q can be used to develop stronger and richer formulations. SAPOGEL® Q does not produce visible oil droplets in formulations, instead forming a lamellar structure. Formulations made with SAPOGEL® Q are also stable in heat and cold and do not show any negative effects in combination with acids and bases.

  Application dosage

  • 15-25% the higher the concentration of Sapogel, the lower the viscosity.
  • To make your product more mobile, you can add up to 15% vegetable glycerin.
  • Recommended application concentration: 20-25% for oil gels; adding up to 5% water for creamy textures.
  • The viscosity fluctuates between a thick absorbable paste and a free-flowing liquid simply by increasing the sapogel concentration.

  Application

  • You must follow a certain procedure when working with sapogel Q.
  • Procedure: Measure the Sapogel, measure the oil in another beaker, very carefully add the oil to the Sapogel and mix thoroughly.
  • Addition of glycerin: Glycerin reduces viscosity. You can add up to 5% glycerin to the sapogel phase.
  • INCI: Glycerin, Aqua, Quillaja Saponaria Wood Extract, Saponaria Officinalis (Soapwort) Extract
