Even a cosmetic beginner can handle it and it is made in a few minutes. It's a base milk made by emulsification (which sounds scary, but saying this word is more complicated than mixing the whole cream. :) A pinch of gold and bronze mica powder turns a "normal" simple body milk into an absolutely stellar affair.
Our body lotion is lavender with eucalyptus. However, just like the strength of the glitter, you can adjust and mix your scent exactly to your liking.
There is strength in simplicity
As an oil base, we used thistle oil, which is called safflower (or safflower). It absorbs quickly, so you won't feel unpleasantly greasy. In addition, safflower oil will please the skin due to its high content of vitamin E and oleic acid, and the wallet due to its low price.
The water phase is a mixture of lavender flower water (but you can use another hydrolate you like, or distilled water), vegetable glycerin and honey. Honey and glycerin bind moisture from the air, and thus help the milk to hydrate and soften the skin even more.
We added the soothing scent of lavender with the refreshing scent of eucalyptus and created a combination ideal for days warmed by the warm rays of the sun and for cooler autumn evenings.
Gold and bronze mica powder provides an elegant shimmer. The amount is easy to adjust, with our ratios you can achieve a subtle shine that is beautifully noticeable in the sun, but not provocative or distracting. If you want more shine, add the mica in small amounts so you don't accidentally end up sparkling like a disco ball. :)
What does it take?
- 70 grams of lavender flower water (or other hydrolate, or distilled water)
- 3 grams of vegetable glycerin
- 3 grams of high-quality honey (for a completely plant-based version, honey can be replaced with another 3 grams of glycerin)
- 10 grams of emulsifying wax NF
- 18 grams of safflower oil
- Approximately 0.7 grams of Cosgard
- 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)
- About ½ teaspoon of bronze or gold mica powder (we used a mixture of Sunbeam Gold, Just Peachy and Sangria and it's beautiful!)
How to do it?
We will prepare a water bath.
Pour the safflower oil into a heat-resistant glass (perhaps a mason jar), add emulsifying wax to it, slide it into a water bath and let it bathe on a medium flame.
In the meantime, mix flower water, glycerin and honey in another container. We slide it into the bath next to the melting wax in the oil so that all the components have the same temperature.
When everything is well dissolved and heated, we pour the water phase (water with glycerin and honey) to the oil with wax. Let it warm up for a while, then take it out of the water bath and beat it with a hand mixer while it cools. The mixture turns into a beautifully fluffy and relatively dense white cream.
Add the Cosgard preservative to the cooled cream, add a drop of essential oils and mix in the mica powders. We beat everything well and possibly adjust the glitter, color and scent.
We then transfer the finished cream into a suitable container (for example, into a comfortable airless bottle) and it's done!
Thanks to the preservative, the cream can last at least six months even outside the refrigerator.
