Hydrolyzed oat protein is a plant-based active ingredient derived from oats. Through a hydrolysis process, the proteins are broken down into smaller molecules that are better incorporated into cosmetic formulations.

A watery, easily workable oat protein with a gently foaming character. Suitable wherever you want the washing product to feel "softer" to the touch, have a more pleasant foam and leave hair and skin smoother.

Hydrolyzed oat protein is a protein ingredient that has hydrating, softening and foaming properties. Due to hydrolysis, it is highly soluble and can improve texture and foaming in formulations (e.g. in gentle gels or shampoos). It acts mainly as a hydrating and conditioning ingredient.

Foamy hydrolyzed oat protein mainly addresses washing comfort:

  • in the washing base, it can soften the feel, making the product feel “softer”,

  • gives conditioning effect (smoother touch to hair and skin),

  • and because it is hydrolyzed, it is commonly easily miscible with the aqueous phase.

It is also practical when you want a gentler washing product (e.g. for more sensitive skin, for children, for frequent washing), but do not want to compromise on the product being pleasant to use.

This variant also has gentle foaming properties, which is why it is ideal for use in washing products.

  • The historical use of oats has been shown to provide cleansing, moisturizing, and smoothing benefits to the skin and hair.
  • Oats contain a high concentration of starches and beta-glucan, which are responsible for their protective and retaining properties. The presence of plant phenols may also exert antioxidant and soothing effects in oats.
  • Some of the oat phenols are also strong absorbers of ultraviolet radiation, serving as photoprotectors for skin and hair.
  • Oat protein can be hydrolyzed into lower molecular weight fractions to increase its solubility. The addition of fatty acid condensate, which is used to increase foaming, further modifies the protein.
  • Protein can be added to gentle cleansing products, such as baby applications or those targeted at sensitive skin, to provide gentle lathering as well as moisturizing and conditioning benefits.
