Scent Combinations

Choose essential oils based on your mood, type of practice, or the effect you wish the spray to have. Fresh, herbal, and grounding blends work well.

  • Cleansing: 20 drops tea tree + 20 drops lemon or lemongrass
  • Refreshing: 15 drops rosemary + 15 drops eucalyptus + 15 drops grapefruit
  • Grounding: 15 drops bergamot + 25 drops lavender + 10 drops patchouli

Instructions

  1. Prepare a clean spray bottle.
  2. Add your chosen essential oils to the bottle.
  3. Add the perfume base and seal the bottle well.
  4. Shake thoroughly and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. This helps the oils incorporate into the alcohol.
  5. Open the bottle, add the vinegar, and top up with distilled or floral water.
  6. Seal the bottle and shake well again.

Tip: For a gentler scent, use floral water. Witch hazel, mint or tea tree hydrosol work well for mats.

How to Use the Spray

Shake the bottle well before each use. Spray onto the mat or exercise props, wipe with a clean cloth if needed, and let air dry for a while. Before rolling up your mat, let it breathe for a few minutes.

You can use the spray after every practice or even before, whenever you want to refresh your mat and create a more pleasant movement space.

Function of Each Ingredient

Perfume base forms the alcohol part of the recipe. It helps bind essential oils to the mixture and encourages quicker evaporation from surfaces.

Vinegar is a simple household cleaning ingredient. It helps neutralize odors and is useful wherever you want a surface refreshed without complicated chemicals.

Essential oils provide fragrance and character to the spray. Tea tree, eucalyptus, rosemary, lemon, or lavender are suitable for blends meant for cleanliness, freshness, and comfort during practice.

Floral or distilled water forms a gentle watery base. Floral water also offers a subtle aroma and softens the overall blend.

Notes on Use

Not every yoga mat tolerates alcohol, vinegar, or essential oils. Always test the spray on a small inconspicuous area before first use and observe how the material reacts. The spray contains no solubilizer or emulsifier, so separation may occur. Always shake well before use.

This spray is a handy helper for regular practice at home or in a studio. Just a few spritzes, a moment to air out, and your mat is ready for the next session. Customize the scent—choose fresh for the morning, herbal after a dynamic class, or calming for evening stretching.
