MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an organic sulfur compound used in cosmetics as an active ingredient in skin and hair products. In home production, it is used mainly in products intended for problematic skin, scalp and nail care.
In cosmetic formulations, it acts as a supporting ingredient to improve the overall appearance of the skin and hair. It is often combined with niacinamide, panthenol, hyaluronic acid or plant extracts. It is suitable for water serums, gels, creams, shampoos and tonics.
Helps soothe irritated skin. Supports skin regeneration and healthy appearance. Can help improve problematic skin. In hair care, it supports the strength of the hair fiber.
The advantage is good tolerability and wide use. The disadvantage may be a slightly bitter taste and a specific odor in concentrated form, which, however, is usually not evident in the finished product.

Procedure
- Dissolve MSM in the water phase by gently heating (approx. 50–60 °C).
- Add xanthan and create a gel.
- After cooling below 40°C, add niacinamide and preservative.
- Check the pH (approx. 5–6).
- Fill into disinfected packaging.

- Apply a small amount to cleansed skin.
- Aquatic product requires preservation.
- Store at room temperature.
Cream with MSM (O/W emulsion)

Procedure
- Dissolve MSM in the water phase and heat to 70 °C.
- Heat the oil phase separately to 70 °C.
- Combine the phases and homogenize.
- At temperatures below 40 °C, add panthenol and preservative.
- Check the pH (approx. 5–6).
- Fill into the container.
Packaging and use
- Use as a regular face cream.
- Aquatic product requires preservation.
Hair tonic with MSM

Procedure
- Dissolve MSM completely in water.
- Add panthenol and mix.
- Stir in the preservative.
- Check the pH (approx. 4.5–5.5).
