Basic formulation for approximately 30 g of hair oil:
Be sure the bottle, funnel, and workspace are clean and dry. As this is a water-free product, no preservative is needed, but cleanliness during production remains important.
In a clean beaker or directly into the bottle, successively weigh the almond oil, poppy oil, squalane, and cucumber oil.
Add bisabolol and vitamin E. Gently mix or close the bottle and turn it over a few times slowly.
Finally, add 0.2 g of cosmetic fragrance. Do not add more just to make the oil smell stronger. Since hair oil remains in hair, a light and delicate scent is more pleasant.
Close the finished blend and shake it gently a few times. Let it sit for a while so the components combine well.
Rub a small amount of oil between your palms and gently apply to the ends or lengths of your hair. Start with one or two drops. For fine hair a tiny amount is enough; for thick and dry hair you may gradually increase the amount as needed.
Oil can be used:
For an oil wrap, apply a larger amount to the hair lengths and, if desired, to the scalp. Wrap your hair in a towel, leave for at least 30 minutes, then shampoo thoroughly. For thicker hair, a double shampoo may be needed.
Almond oil is well-tolerated and pleasant to use. In hair care, it makes hair feel softer, provides better slip, and helps achieve a groomed appearance. It is suitable for use on ends and in wraps, as it is lighter than some heavier oils.
Poppy seed oil is a gentle plant oil rich in unsaturated fatty acids. In hair care, it helps hair feel more supple and shiny, especially for dry, rough, or dull ends and lengths.
Cucumber oil is light and glides smoothly. In hair products, it's used where you want smoothing without heavy greasiness. It contributes to softness, shine, and easier detangling.
Squalane is a very light oil component that spreads well and does not leave a notably greasy feel. In hair oil, it lightens the blend, improves slip, and gives hair a soft, smoothed look. It's good even for ends that need care but can't tolerate heavier oils.
Bisabolol is a component known from chamomile. In cosmetics, it's used for softening and soothing formulas. In hair oil, it smooths the effect both on hair and on the scalp (when used as a wrap).
Vitamin E here mainly acts as an antioxidant, helping to protect the oil blend from faster oxidation (rancidity). It's a common part of cosmetic oil blends.
Cyclomethicone is a volatile silicone component. It creates a lighter, less greasy feel and improves spreadability of oil. It gradually evaporates after application so hair doesn't feel weighed down. This variant is especially useful for fine hair or hair that clumps after classic oils.
This recipe is water-free and does not require a traditional preservative. Still, practice cleanliness, use dry utensils, and avoid touching the bottle opening with fingers. Store the finished oil closed, in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Ideally use within 3 to 6 months. If the oil changes in scent, color, or becomes stale, discontinue use. Always respect recommended dosage for fragrances and patch test a small amount before first use, especially if you have a sensitive scalp.
Homemade hair oil beautifully shows that sometimes a simple recipe is enough. A few well-chosen oils, a light component for better spreadability, an antioxidant, and a fragrance you like.
Start with small amounts when both using and making. Your hair will indicate whether it prefers a richer variant or a lighter blend with cyclomethicone. If unsure, remember: less oil in hair usually performs better than more.
