Preparation instructions

  1. Prepare the oil phase. In a clean, heat-resistant beaker, weigh out the hazelnut oil and Olivem 1000 emulsifier. Heat the mixture in a water bath to about 65°C until the emulsifier is fully dissolved.
  2. Prepare the water phase. In another clean beaker, weigh out the distilled water. Add in the tapioca and zinc oxide. Heat this mixture in a water bath to the same temperature as the oil phase.
  3. Combine both phases. While constantly stirring, slowly pour the water phase into the oil phase. Whisk with a mini whisk until you get a fine, liquid emulsion. The consistency should resemble a light milk, suitable for use in a roll-on container.
  4. Let the mixture cool. Continue stirring the emulsion for a few more minutes, then allow it to cool, stirring occasionally. When the temperature falls below 40°C, you can add temperature-sensitive ingredients.
  5. Add actives and fragrance. Stir in Bacti Pur, peppermint essential oil, and Cosgard preservative to the cooled mixture. Mix thoroughly so all ingredients disperse evenly.
  6. Fill the bottles. Pour the finished deodorant into two clean 30 ml roll-on bottles. Close, shake, and let them settle for a few hours.

We recommend shaking the bottle briefly before each use.

What does each ingredient do in this recipe?

Hazelnut oil creates a gentle, nurturing oil component. It makes the recipe soft without making the skin greasy. You can substitute almond, jojoba, or wheat germ oil if needed.

Olivem 1000 helps blend the water and oil phases into a light emulsion. It’s used in a smaller amount so the deodorant stays liquid and suitable for a roll-on.

Tapioca adds softness to application and helps reduce stickiness.

Zinc oxide supports skin comfort and is a favorite in natural cosmetics.

Bacti Pur is an important active in the recipe. It helps control unwanted odor caused by bacteria on the skin.

Peppermint essential oil gives the deodorant a refreshing scent. You may use it alone or replace it with an essential oil blend such as sage, thyme, eucalyptus, and mint.

Cosgard protects the water-based product from microbial contamination and prolongs its shelf life.
