Lauric acid is a saturated fatty acid and is a common raw material in cosmetic and soap production. In home cosmetics, it is used primarily in the production of solid soaps, where it affects their structure, hardness and foaming. It is also used as an auxiliary ingredient in emulsion and anhydrous products, where it contributes to a thicker consistency.

Including lauric acid in the formula can create stable products with a firmer structure, especially suitable for solid and semi-solid cosmetic forms.

How to work with it
Lauric acid is insoluble in water, soluble in oils and fats. It has a higher melting point, so it is processed hot - it must first be dissolved in the oil phase.
In soap making, it is used as part of the fat component before saponification. The dosage depends on the type of product and the desired properties (hardness, foaming, consistency).

Use

  • Lauric acid has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, it is a fatty acid found in coconut and is used for skin treatment, anti-acne, detergents and cleaning properties.
  • Research has shown that lauric acid on the skin can help fight acne-causing bacteria. Lauric acid prevents them from multiplying. Lauric acid can help reduce acne inflammation. Lauric acid is often used in higher concentrations to provide a pleasant natural scent.
  • Lauric acid is used in emulsions, such as cream emulsion, where it helps solubilize the essential oil into the final formulation, improving dispersion and the final quality of the cream.
  • Lauric acid is typically used in cosmetic products as a solubilizer in emulsions.
  • How to use? Add during the oil phase of production. Typically used at up to 5% for fragrance and approximately 1% for solubilization.

Can be used in the following formulations

  • Shower gel
  • Shampoo
  • Bath foam

Recommended dosage
