As temperatures rise, we shed layers, dress up in dresses, skirts or shorts and expose bare skin… Which for many of us also means shaving more often. And because we are convinced that it is possible to make a natural and gentle substitute for practically any cosmetic product, be it toothpaste or deodorant , we decided to take shaving products into the show!
Protects, softens and nourishes
If you've ever tried dry shaving, we probably don't need to convince you for a long time that it's wise to always use a foam or cream intended for this when shaving... After shaving "without anything", pimples often pop up on the skin, the skin remains irritated, dry, and is much more susceptible to injury and hair grows back more easily. Different shaving products work great against all this. They nourish the skin, hydrate it and create a protective layer between the skin and the razor. In addition, the hairs are raised, so you can then stick them closer to the skin and stay smooth for a longer time. Which is a strong enough reason to make your own homemade shaving product!
And because we know that everyone is comfortable with something different, and also in order to have something to choose from, we have two variants of the shaving product for you. Both creamy and foamy!
Homemade shaving cream
The basis of shaving cream is always a combination of oils, soap and water. We were also based on that. And we added baking soda, which prevents skin irritation, and honey (or aloe vera gel). This, in turn, ensures the necessary nutrition and softness.
What you need for shaving cream:
1 cup shea butter
3 tablespoons of coconut oil
2 tablespoons of castile soap
1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin
1 tablespoon of honey or aloe vera gel (if you want a cream without animal products)
2 teaspoons of soda
a few drops of grapefruit seed extract or vitamin E (works as a preservative)
How to do it:
First, in a water bath or in the microwave if you are lazy like me :), let the shea butter soften. It is enough that it is soft, we don't want it to be completely liquid. Give it about 40 seconds in the microwave, a little longer in the water bath. (And if you are preparing the cream in the hot summer, you can probably skip this step completely). Next, whisk the allowed coconut oil, glycerin and castile soap in a bowl. Then slowly pour in the shea butter and keep stirring with a whisk. Beat for about a minute, then gradually add honey (aloe vera gel) and baking soda. Finally, add grapefruit seed extract (vitamin E) and mix well. When the product is creamy like yogurt or mayonnaise, we are done. Transfer the cream to a glass and let it rest at room temperature for 24 hours. Store in a resealable container, such as this jar with an aluminum cap. Shaving cream can last up to 3 months at room temperature.
TIP: When showering or bathing, leave the cream on the edge of the bath, so that it softens a little with the warm steam around it. To prevent bacteria from getting into the cream, it is better to use a spoon to scoop it up or to dry your hands before use.
Simple homemade shaving foam
Made only from natural ingredients, ready in a moment, simple, but very effective and practical. That's what this shaving foam is, you mix it up once and you'll never want another!
What is needed for it:
3 tablespoons of aloe vera gel
3 tablespoons of castile soap
3 tablespoons of olive or almond oil
3 spoons of warm lavender water (or other favorite flower water, verbena or cistus is also great, but you can also use ordinary distilled water)
A few drops of your favorite essential oil
A few drops of vitamin E or grapefruit seed extract
How to do it:
It couldn't be easier! Simply mix everything in a foaming bottle and shake well to mix all the ingredients. Also shake before each use.
TIP: In the summer, we do not recommend using citrus oils in the product, they are photosensitive, so they could cause a rash in sensitive individuals.
And if you prefer to pull hairs rather than shave, try depilation with sugar paste .
What do you prefer to use, cream or foam?
