What do fragrance oils dissolve in?

Fragrance oils are hydrophobic and do not dissolve in water. They should always be blended in a carrier:

• Alcohol – ideal for perfumes, sprays and fresheners.
• Vegetable oils – suitable for massage blends and cosmetics.
• Polysorbate 80 – enables mixing with water.
• Augeo – suitable for perfumes and diffusers.

Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures:

Irritating to skin (H315), may cause an allergic skin reaction (H317), causes serious eye irritation (H319) and is toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (H411). Avoid release to the environment (P273), wear protective gloves (P280). IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes, remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing (P305+P351+P338). If skin irritation or rash occurs: Get medical advice/attention (P333+P313). If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention (P337+P313). Dispose of contents/container in accordance with applicable regulations (P501).
