Preparation procedure

  1. Pre-mixing the gelling phase: In a smaller clean container, thoroughly mix glycerin with xanthan gum. Mix until you get a smooth paste without any lumps. This step is key to ensure the xanthan gum disperses properly without clumping.
  2. Add aloe vera: Gradually add aloe vera juice to the paste while constantly mixing. Use a mini whisk and carefully blend the mixture. You’ll see the liquid start to thicken and transform into a light gel.
  3. Dissolve allantoin: Allantoin needs some heat to dissolve perfectly. Take about 10 to 15 grams of the gel into a separate dish and gently warm it in a water bath to around 40–50°C. Add the allantoin to this warm portion and stir until the crystals are completely dissolved. Then return the warm phase to the main mixture and mix well.
  4. Add panthenol: Weigh the panthenol into the gel. Again, use a whisk and mix until you get a smooth, uniform consistency.
  5. Preservation: Finally, add the Cosgard preservative, which will help your gel last even during warmer summer periods. Mix everything thoroughly one last time.
  6. Final adjustment and filling: Let the finished gel stand for about 1 to 2 hours. The xanthan gum will fully hydrate during this time, and the gel will acquire its final texture. Check the consistency – if it seems too thick, you can thin it with a drop of aloe vera juice. Then transfer it to the prepared transparent pump bottle.

Individual ingredients functions

  • Aloe vera juice is the base of the whole product. It is known for its hydrating properties, it refreshes the skin and provides relief from heat sensations.
  • Panthenol is the main active ingredient in this recipe at an optimal concentration of five percent. It significantly supports the regeneration of stressed skin and helps maintain its elasticity.
  • Glycerin acts as a strong humectant that locks moisture in the skin. The four percent portion is chosen to provide maximum hydration while not leaving a sticky film.
  • Allantoin works in synergy with panthenol. It helps soothe irritation and supports the renewal of skin cells.
  • Xanthan gum serves as a natural thickener. At 0.3%, it creates a pleasant, very light gel that spreads well and does not have an unpleasant slimy texture.
  • Cosgard is a gentle preservative certified for natural cosmetics that protects water-based products from the growth of microorganisms.

You can store the made gel at room temperature, but if you put it in the fridge, you get a fantastic helper with an extra cooling effect for hot summer days. Homemade care will bring you not only joy from crafting but most importantly the certainty that your skin is getting exactly what it needs after sun exposure.
