Emollients

the secret ingredient of soft, luxurious cosmetics

Emollients are ingredients that make a huge difference in home cosmetics – often more than the active ingredients themselves. They are not “just oils”. An emollient is something like a skin feel enhancer : it helps a cream not be heavy, a serum not be sticky and a balm to spread like butter.

Emollients are the “secret ingredient” of home cosmetics that can make a huge difference in how the final product will work on your skin and hair. They’re not just ordinary oils – emollients are used mainly to make cosmetics more pleasant to the touch, easier to apply and leave a beautiful, smooth finish. If you ever feel like your cream is too greasy, your serum is sticky, your body butter is thick and doesn’t spread well, or your conditioner doesn’t have enough slip, an emollient is often what’s missing from the recipe.

Emollients help smooth the skin's surface, soften its texture and leave a velvety feel. Thanks to them, creams and emulsions spread more evenly and quickly, the product looks "well-groomed" and professional, and the use is simply more pleasant. Another great benefit is that the correctly chosen emollient can soften the greasy impression and adjust the finish to a satin or slightly dry feeling, so cosmetics are also suitable for daily use. At the same time, emollients help protect the skin from drying out, because they support the skin barrier and limit the evaporation of water from the skin - this will be especially appreciated by dry, tense or sensitive skin, or winter and protective cosmetics.

They also work great in hair care, where they add softness, smoothness and shine to hair, improve combing and help tame frizz. It is thanks to emollients that conditioners tend to be more "slippery" and hair feels smoother and more pleasant to the touch. You can use emollients in creams, serums and emulsions, in body lotions and butters, in balms and lipsticks and of course in conditioners, masks and hair serums. Often, only a small amount is enough, and even a few percent in a recipe can change the impression of the entire product beyond recognition.

Emollients are, in short, ingredients that make your cosmetics look pampered, soft, and professional - and make them that much more pleasant to use.
