Dammar resin is a natural raw material obtained from trees of the Shorea genus. In cosmetics, it is used as a structural ingredient that gives products firmness, shine, and improved adherence to the skin.
For homemade production, it can be especially used for the production of:
protective ointments
lip balms
solid perfumes
traditional healing ointments
fixative aromatic blends
Adding dammar gives the product a firmer texture and a gentle shiny appearance. In oil macerates, it creates a protective film on the skin.
Solubility: dissolves in oils, fats, and alcohol
Insoluble in water
Processing: heat in a water bath together with the oil phase
Melting point: approximately 120°C (melts gradually)
Recommended dosage: 1–10% according to product type
It is advisable to crush the resin finely before use. Heat slowly to avoid overheating the mixture.
What to imagine: a simple ointment based on oil, butter, and wax. Dammar resin makes it firmer and adds a gentle "resinous" character.
Procedure: Heat the oil phase in a water bath, add crushed dammar, and stir until dissolved. Pour into jars and let solidify.
What to imagine: a solid scent in a jar – scoop with your finger and apply to wrist or neck. Dammar helps the fragrance hold and solidifies the consistency.
Procedure: Melt the wax with the resin, add oil and after slight cooling (so the scent does not "boil off") add the aromatic component. Pour into molds or a small jar.
What to imagine: classic solid balm – wax holds the shape, butter softens, castor oil adds shine and a "gliding" feel.
Procedure: Melt in a water bath, stir and pour into balm containers. Let solidify.
