What you will need

Formula divided into three phases:

  • Phase A: 11 g titanium dioxide, 0.5 g pink clay, 0.5 g green clay, 3.5 g cocoa
  • Phase B: 10 g olive butter, 3.5 g plum oil
  • Phase C: 0.5–1 g yellow mineral oxide, 0.1–0.2 g red iron oxide, 0–1 drop bergamot essential oil
Adjust the shade gradually: yellow and especially red oxide are strong pigments. Start with the lower end of the suggested amount and add more only after thoroughly mixing and testing the shade.

What else will be useful

  • digital scale,
  • small bowl or mortar,
  • pestle or sturdy measuring spoon,
  • clean spatula,
  • clean, dry cosmetic jar,
  • good daylight for checking the shade.
Thorough mixing is essential: small pigment clumps may be almost invisible in the mixture but can leave a light, yellow or red mark when spread on the skin. Always disperse the pigments carefully.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Prepare the mineral base. Weigh the titanium dioxide, pink clay, green clay and cocoa into a bowl or mortar. Set the yellow and red oxides aside. Grind the powders thoroughly until smooth and evenly coloured.
  2. Add the olive butter and plum oil. Work them into the mineral base until a smooth, creamy balm consistency forms.
  3. Start with the yellow pigment. Add approximately 0.5 g and incorporate it thoroughly. Test the shade before adding more.
  4. Adjust the red undertone. Start with approximately 0.1 g of red iron oxide. Add more only in very small amounts, up to approximately 0.2 g.
  5. Find your shade. Test a small amount along the jawline and neck in natural daylight. If the mixture is too light, add a little cocoa. Yellow oxide creates a warmer, yellower undertone, while red oxide adds a warmer, pinker undertone.
  6. Finish the BB cream. Once you are happy with the shade and consistency, optionally add one drop of essential oil. Mix thoroughly and transfer to a clean, dry jar.

How the result should look

The finished BB cream should be smooth and creamy, without visible grains or coloured dots. It should spread easily and create a thin tinted layer that visually evens out the skin tone.

How to use the BB cream

Apply a small amount to the skin and spread it gradually with your fingers or your preferred makeup tool. Start with a small amount and add more only as needed.

Storage and shelf life

Store the BB cream in a tightly closed container in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat. Use clean, dry fingers or a spatula and avoid introducing water into the product. If the scent, colour or character of the oil base changes significantly, discontinue use.

The BB cream is not sunscreen: titanium dioxide is used here as part of the light mineral base and for coverage. Do not assign a specific SPF to this homemade BB cream or use it as a substitute for a dedicated sun-protection product.
