Cosgard is a preservative intended for use in water-based cosmetic products or formulations containing water. It protects the finished product from the growth of microorganisms during storage and use.
It is used in creams, facial waters, shampoos, shower gels, serums and other cosmetic products.

How to use it

Cosgard is soluble in water and alcohol and is added to the finished emulsion or water phase. It is heat-stable and can also be added to a warmer mixture; however, incorporation at temperatures up to approximately 40 °C is recommended.

Antibacterial and antifungal synthetic preservative
Synthetic origin (benzyl alcohol, dehydroacetic acid, water), cosmetic quality, approved for use in the production of organic cosmetics.

Use

This preservative will effectively protect all your preparations containing a water phase (creams, milks, facial waters, gels ...).
It is of synthetic origin, but is one of the few preservatives approved by Ecocert and is widely used in organic cosmetics.
Dosage: 0.2 to 1% (of the total weight of the preparation), added at the end of production; the usual dosage is 0.6%.
This preservative will effectively protect all your preparations containing a water phase.

Important: Cosgard effectively preserves products with a pH of 2–7. Before adding the preservative, we recommend measuring the pH of the finished product and adjusting it if necessary. For the best effectiveness, a pH of 4–6 is ideal. The preservative is not suitable for products with a pH higher than 7, such as traditional soaps.

Classification according to Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council

R20 / 22: Harmful by inhalation and if swallowed.
S26: In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with water and seek medical advice.
