Astaxanthin powdered extract is a vividly colored, active cosmetic ingredient harvested from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis.

Perfect for facial serums, gels, and creams focused on antioxidant care, even-looking complexion, and cutting-edge everyday cosmetic routines.

Astaxanthin belongs to the family of carotenoids, highly prized in cosmetics for their antioxidant action in formulations. In home cosmetics, it is mainly used in facial serums, light gels, O/W emulsions, creams, masks, and products for mature or stressed skin.

In the cosmetic industry, astaxanthin is a premium anti-aging ingredient with a unique potential for blue light protection. This carotenoid shields the skin from digital aging caused by screens and smartphones. Its proven effects against UV radiation and HEV (High Energy Visible) light are scientifically documented. Typical uses include anti-pollution serums, blue light-protective creams, and premium anti-aging skincare. Take note of its characteristic red hue.

The powder form is ideal when you want the formulation to gain an active ingredient with a distinctive orange-red tint.

Astaxanthin can also be used to achieve a red tint in cosmetic products. It colors extremely intensely, so caution is required.

Astaxanthin powder extract can be incorporated into gels, serums, creams, emulsions, masks, balms, and decorative cosmetics.

The water-soluble powder variant is best mixed first in a small amount of the water phase or in glycerin, then added to the entire product.

It stains very intensely, so we recommend starting with the lowest suggested dosage and always testing the final product shade

How to work with astaxanthin

The manufacturer notes the powdered extract has good water solubility. Add to formulas ideally in the water phase or first disperse in a small volume of water or glycerin.

The recommended dosage is 2–5%.

pH range approximately 3.9–7.18.

Astaxanthin is suitable for making: facial gels, hydrating serums, antioxidant creams, O/W emulsions, gel masks, light facial fluids, and after-sun products.

INCI: Astaxanthin. Astaxanthin powder extract (from Haematococcus pluvialis)

Astaxanthin boasts 6,000 times higher antioxidant capacity than vitamin C, 800 times higher than coenzyme Q10, and 550 times higher than vitamin E.
